JR East has renewed the “Train Running Position” display for some routes in the “JR East App” (iOS/Android version).
The renewal includes all conventional lines in the Kanto and Tokyo metropolitan areas (excluding the Yamanote Line) and all conventional limited express trains for which information is provided by the application. The same information will be displayed as before for lines in the Kanto, Tohoku, and Shinetsu areas outside the Tokyo metropolitan area, Shinkansen trains, and non-JR East Japan lines.
Previously, the train map screen only showed the train car and the time of delay for each train, but after the renewal, the train type, destination, and congestion status can also be checked. By tapping the train icon, you can still view the estimated time of arrival at each station.
