Posted on 2023-09-29 by Editor in Chief

On September 22, Ken Corporation, a real estate and hotel operator, held a briefing on the opening of K-Arena Yokohama and Hilton Yokohama, which will open in the Yokohama Minato Mirai 21 district near Yokohama Station.

K-Arena Yokohama” has top-class capacity and facilities as a hall exclusively for music

First, Tsuyoshi Tamura, president of K Arena Management, which operates Music Terrace, the city block that includes K Arena Yokohama, gave an overview of the area. Music Terrace includes three facilities: K-Arena Yokohama, a music hall; Hilton Yokohama, a luxury hotel; and K-Tower Yokohama, an office building; K-Arena Yokohama has a seating capacity of 20,333, Hilton Yokohama has 339 guest rooms, and K-Tower Yokohama has a rental floor area of approximately 15,000m2.

The main feature of K-Arena Yokohama is that it is one of the highest capacity music halls in Japan. He noted that although there are larger facilities for sports and shared use, most arena venues have a capacity of 17,000 to 18,000 people, and explained, “In the world, there are famous venues such as Madison Square Garden, but they have a capacity of 20,000 people, so I think it is fair to say that this is one of the largest facilities in the world. I think we can say that this is one of the largest facilities in the world,” he explained.

As for the sound, the hall is equipped with approximately 200 high-performance speakers manufactured by L-ACOUSTICS of France, and the company has taken into consideration the fact that some seats may make it difficult to hear the sound. The hall is also designed with a number of sound absorbing devices to prevent unpleasant sounds caused by echoes and reverberations, so that comfortable sounds can be enjoyed directly. The seats are designed so that the stage can be easily seen from a distance, allowing both the performers and the audience to enjoy the live performance with a sense of unity.

The hall is divided into four levels: Arena on the 1st floor, Lower Stand on the 3rd floor, Middle Stand on the 5th floor, and Upper Stand on the 7th floor. Eleven concession stands are available, a lounge with approximately 400 seats on the 5th floor, and a Bar lounge on the 7th floor, where visitors can enjoy drinks and food before and after the concert.

In addition, 6200 coin-operated lockers are available inside and outside the facility, allowing visitors to attend live performances with light luggage. In line with the recent trend toward cashless payment, all payments except for coin lockers are basically cashless. In addition, VIP rooms and VIP lounges are available for organizers and companies.

President Tamura also explained that K-Arena Yokohama is an easy-to-use hall for event organizers. In particular, to reduce the cost and labor required for delivery and installation, 11-ton trucks can be driven directly into the hall, and a wide variety of sound and lighting equipment is available for rent.

In terms of facilities, he said that K-Arena Yokohama features equipment that can hoist up to 120 tons of stage equipment, elevating grids installed in eight areas, and other features that make it possible to set up a large-scale stage, as well as excellent usability and safety considerations. He also added that the backyard is spacious enough for staff to move around easily.

K-Arena Yokohama will start with Yuzu’s performances on September 29-October 1, and is at 80% occupancy for the year, with many more live events planned for the future. President Tamura said that reservations for performances on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays are being accepted up to 18 months in advance, and that “we have received applications from a wide variety of artists from Japan and abroad, allowing people to enjoy a variety of music genres.

In the Music Terrace, there will be four outdoor event spaces, which will also be available for rent. The company is also considering using the large screen, which was approved for installation after consultation with the City of Yokohama, for public viewing of major sporting events.
