The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Loan Agreement (L/A) with the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh on September 30 in Dhaka for the Matabari Ultra Supercritical Pressure Coal-Fired Thermal Power Project (VII) up to 517.5 billion yen.
This project aims to construct a highly efficient ultra-supercritical pressure coal-fired power plant with a rated output of 1,200 MW (600 MW x 2 units) and related facilities such as a coal loading port, transmission lines, and access roads in Matabari District, Cox’s Bazar District, Chottogram District, southeast Bangladesh, thereby expanding the country’s electricity supply and diversifying energy sources. This will contribute to the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) Goal 7 (Make energy clean for all) and Goal 9 (Build the foundation for industrial and technological innovation).
