JR Tokai will renovate the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen “S Work Cars” to enhance the business environment in the cars. On October 1, a new function will be added to the “business booth” on the deck between cars No. 7 and 8, which can be used by passengers in the “S Work Cars” for working on PCs, making phone calls, and holding small web conferencing sessions. From October 20, the “S Work Car” for businesspersons, which was previously available only in Nozomi Car No. 7, will also be available in No. 7 of the Hikari and Kodama trains. In the “S Work Cars,” partitions and drink holders have been installed in the center of some three-seaters (the part corresponding to seat B) to make seats A and C more spacious, and reservations for “S Work P Seats” will begin on October 18.

S Work P seat” is a new seat for business people. More comfortable working on PCs in Shinkansen trains! S Work cars” are designed for businesspersons who can talk on their seats. S Work carriages, which were previously available only in the No. 7 car of the “Mizomi” train, will also be available in the No. 7 cars of the “Hikari” and “Kodama” trains from October 20, making “S Work cars” available at all stations on the Tokaido Shinkansen. The “S Work P seats” will be introduced in some of the “S Work cars” in Car No. 7 of the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen’s N700S (16-car train), with a total of only 10 seats for three passengers. The seats can be used by adding 1,200 yen to the regular reserved seats. Reservations began on October 18 through EX Service, and will be available at station ticket counters and ticket vending machines from the spring of 2024. The “S Work P Seat” provides more personal space for one person by eliminating the center B seat and using a three-seat seat as a two-seat seat. The partition also blocks the view of neighboring seats, making it possible to work more comfortably in the car. The “S Work P Seat” also uses a newly developed table. As in the past, all N700S cars are equipped with power outlets at the end of the armrests in all seats, including the “S Work P Seat”. In addition, all seats in the “S Work cars” have been reclined to an angle that makes it easier to operate mobile devices. Seats other than “S Work P seats” in the “S Work cars” can be used at the same price as that of a reservation for a reserved seat in a regular car through the EX Service.
