The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Grant Agreement (G/A) with the Government of the Republic of Rwanda on October 5 in Kigali City for a grant of up to 2,009 million yen for the “Project for Introduction of Intelligent Transport System in Kigali City”.
In recent years, Kigali City has been facing worsening traffic congestion and an increase in traffic accidents due to the increase in traffic volume caused by population and economic growth. However, Kigali’s topography is undulating with little flat land, making it difficult to construct new roads or widen existing roads. It is necessary to facilitate traffic flow by maximizing the use of the current road infrastructure and introducing a traffic control system.
