Hankyu Railway will newly build the “2300 Series” as a new type of express train for the Kyoto Line and the “2000 Series” as a new type of commuter train for the Kobe and Takarazuka Lines, and will begin operating them sequentially from the summer of 2024.
This is the first time in 11 years, since 2013, that a new vehicle model has been introduced. While maintaining the traditional image, the company aims to improve barrier-free facilities, emergency response capabilities, and energy-saving performance.
On the exterior, the maroon and ivory body colors and linear design will be retained, while curves will be incorporated in the front window glass to create a sense of speed. The interior follows the tradition of wood-grain veneer and golden olive-colored seats. The sleeve partitions at the ends of the long seats will be made of translucent material to create an open space.
In the lead car, wheelchair space has been enlarged to improve convenience for wheelchair and stroller users and those carrying large luggage. For safety, the handrails on the walls have been made two-level. Wheelchair fixtures will also be installed, and the location of the emergency call device, which was located next to the connecting door, will be changed to next to the boarding door. The height of the handrails near the priority seats will be lowered to make them more accessible to more passengers. The color scheme of the suspension straps will take into consideration the diversity of color vision.
By adopting high-efficiency semiconductor elements in the VVVF inverter controller, power consumption will be reduced by approximately 60% compared to existing trains. Power consumption will be further reduced by turning off the LEDs on the destination indicator on the exterior side of the car while the train is in motion.
An inverter air-conditioning system with excellent energy-saving performance and quietness will be used, resulting in a more comfortable cabin environment. In addition, air purifiers and security cameras will be installed.
In the 2000 Series with long seats, grip bars are installed in the middle of the seats in addition to the seat ends. For the 2300 Series with semi-cross seats, grip bars will be installed in the middle of priority seats.
