Jalan announced the “Best View Ranking of Autumn Foliage at Night” based on a survey on the best spots for viewing autumn foliage.
With nighttime tourism, such as the night-time economy, attracting attention, we conducted a survey of people in their 20s to 50s across Japan (from September 4 to 7, 2023) to find out what they consider to be the most spectacular spots among autumn foliage viewing spots that are illuminated by night lights.
First place went to Nakano Maple Mountain (27 Fudodate, Minaminakano, Kuroishi City, Aomori Prefecture), an Aomori Prefecture landmark with beautiful maple trees more than 100 years old. The competition with the shrine pavilions of Nakano Shrine and Fudo Bridge surrounded by autumn leaves is also a highlight of the festival. The illumination will be held from October 20 to November 5.
The second place was “Nabana-no-sato” (270 Komae Urushibata, Nagashima-cho, Kuwana City, Mie Prefecture) in Mie Prefecture, where visitors can enjoy illumination and autumn leaves at the same time, and the upside-down autumn leaves reflected on the water surface were also popular. The illumination is held from late November to mid-December, when the leaves are at their best.
The third place is “Kawaga Bridge” (near 586-2, Ikaho, Ikaho Town, Shibukawa City, Gunma Prefecture) in Gunma Prefecture. This sightseeing spot is located in Ikaho Onsen, and visitors can enjoy the spectacle of the orange glow of the autumn leaves all over the bridge. The bridge will be lit up from late October to mid-November.
