JICA President Akihiko Tanaka visited the United States from September 19 to 22.
In New York, on the occasion of the UN General Assembly High-Level Week, including the UN SDG Summit, I met with UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohamed, President of the 77th UN General Assembly Csaba Kolosi, UNDP President Achim Steiner, Carsten Stahl, President of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Development DAC Chair, and Scott Nathan, CEO of the U.S. Development Finance Corporation (DFC), and spoke at an event on global health during the UN General Assembly High-Level Week.
Also in Washington, D.C., the group met with World Bank (WB) Group President Ajay Banga, International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) President Ilan Goldfein, and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Samantha Power.

In a meeting with UN Deputy Secretary-General Mohamed, we exchanged views on the usefulness of financial mobilization and human security in accelerating the achievement of the SDGs. We also confirmed the importance of long-term engagement in cooperation with Africa, such as the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD).
In a meeting with Mr. Kolosi, President of the 77th UN General Assembly, we exchanged views on the challenges and prospects for achieving the SDGs and confirmed the importance of using science and allowing each country to make policy decisions that are appropriate to its own circumstances.
During the meeting with UNDP President Steiner, we exchanged views on the need for developing countries to strengthen their systems to promote domestic resource mobilization and private finance mobilization, as well as the dissemination and implementation of human security.
In the meeting with DAC Chairman Stahl, we shared the Japanese government’s and JICA’s perspectives on development, including human security, based on the Development Cooperation Program Guidelines revised in June of this year. We also exchanged views on the importance of continued cooperation with countries under political constraints.
In a meeting with DFC CEO Nathan DFC, we agreed to further strengthen our collaboration in the Indo-Pacific, particularly in Southeast Asia and the Pacific.
At the high-level event on global health “Achieving Resilient, Equitable, and Sustainable UHC by 2030: Equitable Access to Health Crisis Materials (MCMs) and the Impact Investment Initiative for Global Health” organized by the Government of Japan during the UN General Assembly High-Level Week, President Tanaka President Tanaka spoke on achieving equitable access to MCMs due to infectious diseases, including needs-based and coordinated responses, rapid and scaled-up financial mobilization, and strengthening national and regional capacity.

Washington, DC: International Development Finance Organization meets with top U.S. Agency for International Development officials
During the meeting with World Bank Group President Banga, we exchanged views on the continuation and strengthening of the annual consultations (Deep Dive Deep Dive), which have been conducted annually since 2014, possible collaboration in strengthening supply chains in developing countries, Ukraine reconstruction, World Bank reform, and the importance of mobilizing development funds.
During the meeting with IMF Managing Director Georgieva, we exchanged views on the current state of the global economy, debt issues in developing countries, green finance, and the importance of using digital technology in domestic resource mobilization.
During the meeting with IDB President Goldfein, they exchanged views on the multi-layered collaborative relationship between JICA and the IDB through the “Cooperation for Economic Recovery and Social Inclusion in Latin America and the Caribbean (CORE)” co-financing scheme and co-financing to the private sector.
In a meeting with USAID Administrator Power, we confirmed that we will work together in the Indo-Pacific region, including Oceania and Central Asia, as well as in the reconstruction of Ukraine and assistance to neighboring countries.
