NAKED will hold a nighttime worship event, “NAKED YORUMOUDE 2023 Heian Jingu Shrine,” at Heian Jingu Shrine, a national important cultural property in Kyoto. The event will run from December 1 to 25.
In the past, the Otenmon Gate, Daigokuden Hall, and the East Garden of Heian Jingu Shrine, a representative Japanese garden of the Meiji era, have been decorated with art such as projection mapping and lighting up of lanterns. This year, the dynamic lighting will again enhance the vivid red and vermilion colors of the Otenmon Gate, and the precincts of the shrine will be illuminated with light and sound effects. In Toshinen and Shobikan, projection mapping and the reflection of autumn leaves on the pond will be illuminated.
Visitors can also become a part of the light art by walking around with a “NAKED Distance Lantern” in hand. In addition to the free standard type, an interlocking type, in which the light changes in conjunction with the performance, is also available. In addition, at the “Hikari no Te-mizu,” colorful lights are projected onto the palms of visitors as they purify their hands and mouths before praying.
For the third time, the “Corridor of Light,” an interactive artwork that decorates the long corridor of Daigoku-den, an Important Cultural Property, which is normally inaccessible, will make its debut. By placing interlocking “NAKED Distance Lanterns” at designated locations, the projection mapping of the corridor will change.
At Taiping Pavilion, which straddles Seiho Pond, countless lanterns warmly illuminate the Taiping Pavilion standing on the pond. Visitors can hang tanzaku (paper strips of paper with their wishes on them) from the lanterns.
