NEXCO East Japan and Sumarite have started a demonstration experiment of the next-generation unmanned vending machine “Sumarite” at the Sakai PA (off-road) on the Higashi-Nanseki Expressway.
In addition to making it possible to purchase meals and souvenirs outside of store hours, such as at night, the experiment aims to create new experiences through new sales techniques. The experiment is scheduled to run until the end of February 2024.
With “Sumarite,” customers simply download the app, scan the QR code attached to the “Sumarite” door with the app, open the door, and take out the merchandise to complete the payment process. The system is said to solve the complexity of purchase procedures that has been an issue with unattended sales to date, and to significantly reduce shopping time.
The demonstration experiment will offer bread baked in the Shisui PA, popular souvenirs from the store, and hearty boxed lunches newly developed for working drivers.
