Tourism Expo Japan 2023 Osaka-Kansai, one of the world’s largest travel events, is being held at INTEX Osaka (Suminoe-ku, Osaka City) for four days from October 26 to 29.
Following the opening ceremony, the 7th Japan Tourism Awards Ceremony was held to present the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Award and eight other awards in five categories.
In his critique, Yoshiaki Hompo, the jury chairman, commented, “There has been a marked increase in the number of initiatives that focus on sustainability and the SDGs, and they are substantial. The national tourism policy has also made a major shift toward sustainability. It is very encouraging to see that local communities and industries are evolving accordingly. This year’s “Sustainable Tourism Award” was won by the Nantan Miyama Tourism Town Development Association and Beltran, but I feel that other initiatives have been so remarkable that this award may no longer be necessary in the future. I have high hopes that through this project, the tourism industry will continue to develop in a sustainable manner.
The award recipients who took the stage were as follows.
