On October 29, Delta Air Lines began service on the Haneda-Honolulu route (flights departing from Honolulu on October 28); the route, which was scheduled to be transferred from Narita to Haneda in March 2020, had been delayed due to the impact of the new coronavirus outbreak.
Delta Airlines Haneda – Honolulu route (from November 5, 2023)
DL180: Haneda (21:00) to Honolulu (08:55), daily
DL181: Honolulu (14:00) to Haneda (18:45), daily
Prior to the first flight, a ceremony was held in front of Gate 140 at Haneda Airport Terminal 3. Mr. Victor Osumi, President of Delta Air Lines Japan, and Mr. Ryuta Teramoto, Deputy Director of the Hawaii Visitors Bureau, Japan, were in attendance to celebrate the long-awaited flight.
Mr. Victor Osumi, in particular, had a particularly difficult schedule, taking the first flight from Honolulu to Japan, participating in the ceremony, and then immediately boarding a return flight. Especially when you depart from the Honolulu runway, turn around, and see Waikiki and Diamond Head, it makes you think, ‘I want to come back again,'” he said, expressing his strong attachment to the destination.
In addition, a live ukulele performance was held in front of the gate, and tropical drinks mixed with pineapple, lemon syrup, and citrus fruits were served to passengers waiting for boarding to begin.
