The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, Inc. is holding the Japan Mobility Show 2023 at Tokyo Big Sight (Koto-ku, Tokyo) from October 25 to November 5. This report provides information on the “Camper Car Area” in Hall 8 on the 1st floor of the East Exhibition Hall Building. The Japan Mobility Show, which has changed its name from the Tokyo Motor Show to a new style with participation from a wide range of companies in the automotive industry, from car manufacturers to suppliers, also has a camping car exhibition area. It is located in East Hall 8 on the seaward side of the East Wing of Tokyo Big Sight. It was newly constructed in conjunction with the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The show is a large scale exhibition, taking up an entire floor of the building, with 35 vehicles on display, ranging from large campers to light campers, and allowing visitors to view the interiors (and even climb into some of the vehicles). One of the most talked-about vehicles on display is a Disney-spec camper by Toy-Factory. The base model is a Fiat Professional Ducato 1.3H2 right-hand drive car with Japanese specifications, and is called the “DA VINCI 6.0 EDITION” (Disney 100th Anniversary Commemorative Car). This vehicle is a very special camper that was offered by the Walt Disney Company of the U.S., and the company decided to produce it. Applications for the lottery are being accepted until December 24. Applications can be made at the Toy Factory booth at the Japan Mobility Show, or at the Toy Factory Gifu main store or Toy Factory Shonan store. The price is 20,230,000 yen and up. As the name suggests, the vehicle commemorates the 100th anniversary of Disney’s founding, and the theme of the production is “100 years of history from its origins and beginnings. To incorporate this theme into the camper’s existence, the theme was imagined as an “old movie theater. The interior is decorated with movie film motifs, and the seat fabrics look like movie theater seats. The carpet was also specially designed. The doors open to reveal Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, who look like they were drawn on a blackboard with chalk, making this the perfect camper for fans. ©Disney
Toyota’s Concept Cars for Outdoor Leisure Spots Among the various campervans on display in the main area, there was a space with a different atmosphere, so I stopped by and found the booth of Toyota Motor Corporation. Toyota has a large booth where it exhibits concept cars and other vehicles, but this booth exhibited concept models that were created by the department in charge of advanced technology and are suitable for outdoor leisure activities. There are two vehicles on display, so let me introduce them in order. The first is a mobile mist sauna (steam bath) mobility vehicle called “NUKU MARU. It is based on a Hiace (super-long, wide-body, high-roof), and is equipped with a changing area, hair-washing shower, and mist sauna room in the cargo area. According to the person who explained the system, the mist sauna uses only about 330 mL of water per person per bath, yet it is effective in warming the body from the core and removing dirt from the body. However, it does not have the effect of washing the scalp and hair, so a separate shower is provided for washing hair after the sauna. The vehicle has a wide range of uses, for example, it can be used in nursing and medical care settings, and it is also useful in times of disaster because of its low water usage. The person explaining the vehicle said that in addition to such uses, they expect the vehicle to operate at campgrounds, RV parks, and other leisure spots where people need to take a bath. However, Toyota does not have a department to operate the NUKU MARU as a service, so it is sold to businesses and municipalities (or installed on their vehicles), but the demand for the NUKU MARU is likely to increase as more campgrounds have sauna rooms. The NUKU MARU is also likely to be popular at leisure sites such as surfing and SUP, where people go into the water even in winter.
