Calm morning scenery at a 5-star resort. The first morning on the remote island of Ile des Pins was neither hot nor cold, and the weather was pleasant. Walking along the beach on the way to the breakfast room, I was stopped for a while by a friendly cat. I missed the quiet sound of the waves and the relaxing island time.
Seafood lunch at a seaside restaurant. Escargot and semi shrimp! We had lunch at SNACK LE KOUGNY, a restaurant along the beach on the way back to Le Méridien Ile d’Epang from Pissenne Naturel. Since we had been active since the morning and had been in the ocean, we found ourselves hungry. I will never forget the delicious seafood lunch I had here. The first dish was escargot, an Ildepan specialty that I had also had the previous night at the hotel’s dining restaurant. The escargot covered with a rich sauce dressed with butter was a perfect match with rice. Bread is good, but rice would probably go better with it. Next, lobster and semi-shrimp were served with coconut-dressed potatoes and salad. The dish was simply grilled with herbs, but the fragrant aroma of the shrimp was irresistible. I was surprised to find such a gorgeous grilled seafood dish at a small restaurant on the seaside of Ile des Pins, a remote island in New Caledonia, which can only be reached by foot!
