The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Record of Discussions (R/D) with the Government of the Republic of Rwanda on November 3 in Kigali City on the technical cooperation project “Quality Technical Education Project for Human Resource Development for Social Change.
In Rwanda, agriculture, forestry, and fisheries account for about 27% of GDP (in 2022), and the country’s industrial structure is centered on smallholder farmers. However, the skills and abilities of graduates from educational institutions currently differ from those expected by the labor market, and there is an urgent need to develop human resources in line with the needs of the industrial sector.
This project will contribute to the development of industrial human resources in Rwanda through the development and implementation of curricula and modules (especially in IT-related subjects) in collaboration with industry, in cooperation with Integrated Polytechnic Regional College (IPRC), an institution of higher technical education established in eight schools in Rwanda, and Rwanda Polytechnic, which supervises these schools. This will contribute to SDG Goal 4 (Quality Education for All) and Goal 9 (Let’s Create a Foundation for Industry and Innovation).
