The Metropolitan Expressway announced traffic congestion forecasts for December, including the year-end and New Year’s holidays. The expressway operator urges drivers to take extra time to avoid traffic congestion by changing their travel days and times, referring to the congestion forecast calendar and past results.
Traffic congestion is expected on weekdays December 15, 21, 22, and 25-27 due to the concentration of business and other traffic. Heavy traffic congestion is expected especially from early morning to late at night.
The year-end and New Year’s period from December 28 to January 5, 2024 tends to be relatively low due to calmer business traffic, but both traffic volume and congestion are expected to be high on January 2, 2024, based on the trend of previous years.
In addition, traffic congestion on the Wangan Route during the same period is expected to start earlier than usual due to many travelers going to shopping malls in the Kisarazu and Chiba areas and leisure spots in the Kasai and Maihama areas. Heavy traffic congestion is also expected to occur, especially on the Tokyo Bay Aqua-line, so we recommend using the Haneda Line Airport West Exit when heading to Haneda Airport from the Tokyo area.
In addition, the company encourages the use of real-time road traffic information applications such as mew-ti to gather information on weather, traffic accidents, breakdowns, construction work, etc.
