JICA President Shinichi Kitaoka met with Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism and Sports Aziz Abduhakimov in Tokyo on July 22.
They also touched on their meeting with President Kitaoka during President Mirziyoyev’s visit to Japan in December 2019, and exchanged views on past cooperation achievements and future prospects between Japan and Uzbekistan.
Mr. Kitaoka referred to the relationship of trust that has been built with Uzbekistan, and expressed the importance of Uzbekistan as an important partner for Japan. He also mentioned the “hospitality” he received from the people of Uzbekistan during his own business trips to Uzbekistan, and noted the similarities between Japan and Uzbekistan, which are connected by the Silk Road, including the value of taking good care of their guests. He also expressed his desire to continue to contribute to the stability and development of Uzbekistan by strengthening relations between Japan and Uzbekistan through projects such as the “JICA Chair (JICA Support Program for Establishment of Japan Research Center)”.
