Background and Objectives
The JICA Chair (JICA Chair in Japanese Studies) program supports the establishment of Japanese studies courses at top universities and other institutions in developing countries to provide opportunities to learn about Japan’s development experience in those countries. In Colombia, the JICA Chair has been held twice in the past at the University of Los Andes. This time, a special lecture was held to further deepen cooperation during Chancellor Tanaka’s visit to Colombia.

On February 23, 2023, JICA President Akihiko Tanaka gave a special lecture titled “Japanese Politics, Economy, and Diplomacy after the Cold War” at the Japan Center, Universidad de los Andes in a hybrid format, explaining Japan’s post-Cold War history in terms of politics, security, investment environment, and international cooperation. The lecture also introduced JICA’s past cooperation with Colombia, providing an opportunity to deepen understanding of the relationship between the two countries.
The lecture was attended by about 150 people in total, who actively asked questions, showing the depth of interest in Japan and JICA in Colombia.
This special lecture provided an opportunity to promote understanding of Japan in Colombia and further increase interest in the country, and the event was a great success.
