USJ will expand Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan and open a new area, Donkey Kong Country, in the spring of 2024.

The world’s first content based on the theme of “Donkey Kong,” Nintendo’s game series loved around the world since its birth in 1981. Visitors can enjoy discovering the characters and playing immersive games while exploring the lush jungle, and experience the world of Donkey Kong with their whole body.

A new ride attraction, Donkey Kong’s Crazy Trolley, will also open in the same area. The ride takes visitors through a forest filled with the sound of drums to the “Golden Temple,” which appears beyond a dense tropical rainforest. Riding on the thrilling trolley, “Donkey Kong and Lily Kong on a mission to protect the Golden Banana from the enemy tribe” is the story of the game.

A series of unexpected surprises unfold, such as jumping out of barrels, dodging obstacles, and jumping and crashing through trucks, climaxing with a confrontation with Tikitong, the supreme leader of the enemy tribe.

In addition, new items for enjoying the area include Donkey Kong and Lily Kong “power-up bands. Like the original Power Up Bands, they are linked to the mobile app and allow users to check their point ranking on the leaderboard in the “Super Nintendo World”.

According to Universal Creative Chief Creative Officer Brian Robinson, who described the experience at the kickoff presentation of the new area on December 5, it is “a novel and unprecedented attraction design. The immersive new area will welcome fans and offer a one-of-a-kind Donkey Kong Adventure, he said.

J.L. Bonnier, President and CEO of U.S.J., also stated, “We have great confidence in the quality of the new area, thanks to our strong collaboration with Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo Representative Director and Fellow, and the talented people at Nintendo,” the creators of the popular characters.
