The Tokyo Metropolitan Government will hold a countdown event “HAPPY NEW YEAR TOKYO” on December 31, from 6:20 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office Tomin Hiroba (2-8-1, Nishi-Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo).
In addition to projection mapping and stage events featuring Piko Taro, Hello Kitty, and other Sanrio characters, the Tokyo Lantern Ceremony will be held to count down the lanterns with wishes for the future Tokyo and the New Year.
To participate in the Lantern Ceremony, advance registration (by lottery) through the special website is required. Applications will be accepted until December 13. Participation is free of charge, and about 600 people will be selected. There will also be a viewing area where no advance application is required.
