JICA President Akihiko Tanaka met with Mr. Duarte, Executive Director of the Green Climate Fund (GCF), on November 20.
Mr. Duarte, who took office in August 2023, emphasized the importance of climate change adaptation measures and the promotion of private-sector partnerships, and expressed his desire to reform the organization so that developing countries can more easily access GCF funds. He also expressed his hope to further strengthen cooperation with JICA in order to advance climate change measures.
President Tanaka explained that JICA will announce its sustainability policy in November 2023 and aims to implement all new projects in a manner consistent with the Paris Agreement, noting that JICA’s policy is highly compatible with GCF projects and that JICA and GCF need to promote cooperation by leveraging each other’s strengths, He agreed with GCF’s efforts and promised further cooperation in the future.
JICA will work with the GCF and other related organizations to resolve global issues such as climate change countermeasures in each country and region.
