Awajiya will release “Kuromi Lunch” (1980 yen), an ekiben featuring the popular Sanrio character Kuromi, on December 13.
The company, which celebrates its 120th anniversary this year, developed the product in collaboration with Kuromi, which is extremely popular among Generation Z in Japan and other Asian countries, in the hope that the younger generation and visitors to Japan will become more familiar with Japan’s traditional food culture, “ekiben.
A plastic, cromi-shaped bento container wrapped in a cute outer box holds a Western-style menu of easy-to-eat foods for all ages, such as chicken rice, hamburgers, and fried shrimp.
It will be sold at some stores (Shin-Kobe, Tsuruhashi, Sannomiya Center-gai, Tarumi Station, and Lazona Kawasaki) and online stores, as well as at “Tabi Bento” in Shin-Osaka Station and at ekiben conventions at department stores and volume retailers nationwide. A limited number of pre-orders will also be accepted at all Awaji-ya stores.
