JICA Vice President Junichi Yamada met with INTERPOL Secretary General Stock at JICA Headquarters on December 8.
INTERPOL is an international organization of police agencies from around the world, with 196 member countries and regions. At the beginning of the meeting, Secretary-General Stock spoke of the importance of strengthening the capacity of police officers through international cooperation to deal with the threat of transnational organized crime, and expressed hope for stronger cooperation with JICA in this area.
In response, Vice President Yamada stated that since social security is the foundation of economic and social development, JICA has positioned governance, including police capacity building, as one of the priority areas of cooperation and welcomed the partnership with INTERPOL.
The two parties exchanged views on the current state of transnational organized crime in Africa and Central America, and on specific collaborative efforts for the future.
