On December 18, JICA President Akihiko Tanaka met in Tokyo with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, who visited Japan to participate in the ASEAN-Japan Special Leaders’ Meeting.
At the beginning of the meeting, President Tanaka stated that he would like to further deepen the cooperative relationship between the two countries, in light of the upgrading of the Japan-Vietnam relationship to a “comprehensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia and the world” in the joint statement by President Vo Van Thuong and Prime Minister Kishida during President Tanaka’s visit to Japan last month.
In response, Prime Minister Chinh expressed his gratitude for JICA’s cooperation in various fields in Vietnam.
Prime Minister Chinh and President Tanaka then exchanged views on ongoing cooperation projects. They also discussed the direction of cooperation with a view to the next 50 years, and confirmed that they would promote project formation from a medium- to long-term perspective in order to respond to new issues and development needs in Vietnam, and further deepen their collaboration to ensure efficient and effective implementation of projects.
