JICA has published a manga version of the project history, which compiles the inspiring trajectories and achievements of Japan’s proud international cooperation projects, and the seminar was conducted using the manga.
Ms. Reiko Abe, who was sent to Delhi, the capital of India, to build a subway system and worked as a Japanese woman while struggling with cultural barriers and differences in work procedures, and Mr. Mitsuaki Furukawa, who organized a national sports tournament to unite the disparate people in the newly independent, multi-ethnic South Sudan, and was involved in the process of bringing them together, Mitsuaki Furukawa, who was involved in organizing a national sporting event in the newly independent multi-ethnic nation of South Sudan to unite the disparate people and lead them to participate in the Olympics, was invited to speak at the event.
Mr. Abe gave a realistic talk based on his experience in the construction of the Delhi Metro, including the significance of his career and cooperation, the rewards, and the expansion from the Delhi Metro to support for the Indian Shinkansen bullet train.
Mr. Furukawa spoke about the theme of “peacebuilding x sports,” which is not strongly associated with the term “international cooperation,” including its social background, necessity, and the effects of national sports events in raising awareness of national unity.
The event was attended by about 70 people, mostly students and young adults. During the dialogue session, participants entered comments from their smartphones, and the speakers responded to those comments to deepen the discussion.
How do you cope when you face difficulties in your overseas work?” Mr. Abe answered, “A consultant executes a project from a neutral standpoint with respect to all parties involved, including the client, the local government, local residents, and the contractors who are carrying out the work. We believe that a sense of balance and good communication skills are important.” He commented. Mr. Abe also stated that when providing assistance overseas, “We will not forget Japan, but we will not bring Japan with us.
