World premiere of JAL’s new aircraft and first class seats! First A350-1000 seen in Toulouse, France

Posted on 2023-12-21 by Editor in Chief

On December 13 (local time), JAL and Airbus unveiled the actual A350-1000, JAL’s new international aircraft, in Toulouse, France. The aircraft will enter service on January 24, 2024, on routes from Haneda to New York (JL006/JL005).

The interior of the aircraft will be designed with traditional Japanese beauty in mind, in keeping with the interior of the A350-900 aircraft already in service on domestic routes and the Boeing 787-8 aircraft designed for domestic routes. All classes of seats will be redesigned, with a total of 239 seats, including 6 first class seats, 54 business class seats, 24 premium economy seats, and 155 economy seats.

The first class has six seats, created from scratch. By changing the configuration from the current four seats to three seats, the cabin space has been increased 1.3 times, and while the 157cm wall is higher than other airlines, a sense of openness has been created by removing the luggage rack above the seats.

This is the first JAL seat with a door. The seats provide an extremely high level of privacy, with the interior virtually invisible from the aisle.

The maximum seat width is approximately 123 cm, the maximum bed length is approximately 203 cm, and the luxury of three selectable modes: “sofa,” “seat and single bed,” and “double bed.

In double bed mode, the bed is approximately 123 x 203 cm, which is equivalent to a semi-double bed in terms of the size of home bedding, but when seen up close, it actually feels more spacious than its class, partly due to its special in-flight location. The seat cushions incorporate pressure-dispersing material to improve the quality of sleep.

In sofa mode, the seating space can be used to invite passengers from other seats to dine together. The flight attendants will be in charge of this kind of seat arrangement due to the complexity of the operation.

It also features a lot of storage space. There is a wardrobe with a mirror for hanging clothes on hangers, shoe storage, and space for two carry-on suitcases.

The personal monitor is 43 inches with 4K resolution. It is equipped with a tablet-type controller and the world’s first speakers built into the headrest, allowing users to enjoy movies and music without headphones.

It is also characterized by a sprinkling of Japanese-inspired designs. The essence of this design can be felt in the fabric surface of the seats, the reading lamps, and the wall surface of the center seat.
