On December 20, the Miyagi Products Promotion Association announced its policy regarding the closure of Miyagi Prefecture’s antenna store “Miyagi Furusato Plaza” (1-2-2 Higashi-Ikebukuro, Toshima-ku, Tokyo).
As the Miyagi Prefectural Assembly Committee on Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries has already revealed, the prefecture has decided to close Miyagi Furusato Plaza in fiscal 2024. Since its opening in 2005, the store has received a total of 12.6 million visitors and sold 8 billion yen worth of prefectural products, including famous confections, agricultural and marine products, and local gourmet foods such as Sunda Shake and beef tongue.
While many regretted the closure, the association, which is responsible for the store’s operation, stated that it would consider opening a successor store, saying, “The trust of our customers and the expectations of our growers are of immeasurable value.
The specific location and scale of the event are currently undecided, but the company hopes to continue its efforts to promote the prefecture in the Tokyo metropolitan area.
