NearMe will operate the “Kyoto Sightseeing Shuttle,” a shared-ride cab service through January 31. This is a verification experiment as a means of dealing with congestion in the Kyoto area.
The service matches multiple users from the departure and arrival points and transports up to nine people to their destinations in the form of carpooling. Applications and payments must be made in advance via the website, and are accepted up to one hour before the desired time of the ride. Fares vary depending on the number of people sharing a ride, but the maximum fare is 50% of the normal cab fare.
The service area is north of Kyoto Station and extends to Saga-Arashiyama Station, Watarigetsukyo Bridge, and the Kyoto International Conference Center area.
