Grant Aid Agreement Signed for Honduras: Contributing to Reducing Vulnerability to Natural Disasters and Revitalizing the Economy through Bridge Construction on National Highway 6 | News & Media

Posted on 2024-01-152024-01-25 by Editor in Chief

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Grant Agreement (G/A) with the Government of the Republic of Honduras on January 11 in Tegucigalpa for a grant of up to 2,863 million yen for the “National Highway Route 6 Bridge Construction Project.

National Route 6 is one of two national highways that support logistics between Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras, and neighboring Nicaragua. Traffic volume is expected to increase in the future, and because the route passes through a mountainous region, there is a high risk of road closures or major detours due to natural disasters. In particular, although landslide countermeasures have been taken at the 16.3 km point in the past, deformation has been confirmed again since 2016. If this area is damaged, not only would it lead to a major accident, but it could also paralyze the distribution network, especially in the Tokyo metropolitan area, causing significant economic losses.
