Background and Objectives

Discussions were held among experts and young researchers on the challenges and opportunities for strengthening the capacity to implement the Paris Agreement through education and training.

Contents

At the beginning of this seminar, Mr. Yamaguchi and Mr. Takemoto of the United Nations University Institute of Advanced Studies for Sustainability introduced the need to improve the capacity of stakeholders in each country to promote the implementation of the Paris Agreement, and the programs offered by the Institute for this purpose.

Next, panelists Mr. Huy (Vietnam) and Mr. Oribe (Mexico) spoke about the need to train the next generation of experts in Vietnam and to link the work of each ministry and agency in government agencies with climate change countermeasures, respectively. Mr. Morita (JICA) then introduced JICA’s long-term and short-term training programs, and spoke about the importance of collaboration among various stakeholders.

Mr. Matsuzawa (Ministry of the Environment) closed the session by welcoming the human resource development efforts by the United Nations University Institute of Advanced Studies for Sustainability and expressed his hope for further expansion of these efforts to promote climate change countermeasures.

During the Q&A session, the audience expressed their appreciation for JICA’s human resource development programs in Nigeria.
