summary

Conference Title: JICA x Japan Bridge – One year after the Turkey-Syria Earthquake

Talk Event & Photo Exhibition “A New Light of Hope: Japan Bridge

Organized by JICA and Japan Bridge, co-organized by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Office in Japan

Location: Iki Iki Plaza Ichibancho (12 Ichibancho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo)

Background and Objectives

Since 2016, JICA has been implementing the “Bridge to Peace and Human Resource Development Program for Syrian Refugees (JISR)”, a Syrian refugee study abroad program that provides educational opportunities to Syrian youth with the aim of contributing to the future reconstruction of Syria and developing human resources to serve as a bridge between Syria and Japan, with 57 students having completed the program. One year has passed since a massive earthquake hit Syria in February 2023, as the civil war has been raging since 2011. To support the Syrian people affected by the earthquake, Japan Bridge, organized by JISR alumni and other Syrians living in Japan, has been working on reconstruction efforts for the Syrian earthquake. At this event, in addition to a photo exhibition of the earthquake, there will be a talk session by JISR alumni who are also members of Japan Bridge.

Please join us for a photo exhibition and talk event by JISR students who are struggling to support disaster relief and reconstruction efforts in their home country of Syria from Japan.
