JICA President Akihiko Tanaka met with Mr. Rafie, Vice Chairman of the Council of Heads of State and Government of Libya, at JICA Headquarters on January 26.
At the beginning of the meeting, President Tanaka welcomed Vice Chairman Rafie’s visit to JICA and expressed his gratitude for the Libyan government’s message of sympathy for the Noto Peninsula earthquake.
In response, Vice Chairman Rafie again expressed his condolences to the victims of the Noto Peninsula earthquake and his gratitude for the emergency relief supplies provided in response to the flood damage in eastern Libya last September. He then explained the efforts of the national reconciliation process led by Vice Chairman Rafie, and expressed his hope for JICA’s support in the area of human resource development for peace and stability in Libya.
In addition, Vice Chair Rafie and President Tanaka exchanged views on possible future cooperation and confirmed that they would work together with the Libyan Embassy in Japan and the Japanese Embassy to be reopened in Libya to promote cooperation.
