Bringing the Knowledge and Experience of Japanese Local Governments to Laos: Signed a Collaboration Agreement with Saitama Prefectural Bureau of Public Enterprises, Saitama City Waterworks Bureau, Yokohama City Waterworks Bureau, and Kawasaki Water and Sewerage Bureau for the Implementation of the Project for Capacity Improvement in Waterworks Operation and Management (MaWaSU3) | News & Media

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed an agreement with Saitama Prefectural Enterprise Bureau, Saitama City Waterworks Bureau, Yokohama City Waterworks Bureau, and Kawasaki City Water and Sewerage Bureau on the “Project for Capacity Improvement of Waterworks Operation and Management (MaWaSU3)” in Laos. The signatures were signed between the managers of each municipality and the Director of the Global Environment Department of JICA.

The purpose of this agreement is to promote collaboration among the Saitama Prefectural Bureau of Public Enterprises, Saitama City Waterworks Bureau, Yokohama City Waterworks Bureau, Kawasaki City Waterworks and Sewerage Bureau, and JICA in the implementation of MaWaSU3.

JICA has been providing technical assistance to Laos under the “Project for Capacity Improvement of Waterworks Corporation Business Management (MaWaSU)” (August 2012 – August 2017) and the “Project for Capacity Improvement of Waterworks Business Operation and Management (MaWaSU2)” (May 2018 – December 2023), Saitama Prefectural Bureau of Enterprise, Saitama City Waterworks Bureau, Yokohama City Waterworks Bureau, and Kawasaki City Waterworks and Sewerage Bureau have been working together to improve the water supply sector in Laos. With the cooperation of each local government, we have dispatched experts to the area and accepted trainees to Japan, and are developing projects that make use of the knowledge and experience of Japanese waterworks entities and other organizations. Specifically, we have been engaged in a wide variety of activities, such as collecting and managing data, improving capacity for planning, design, and construction for facility operation, maintenance, and maintenance, formulating various guidelines and manuals, and holding workshops on various issues, utilizing the experience and knowledge accumulated by Japanese local governments. These partnerships have been in place for more than 11 years. This collaborative relationship has continued for more than 11 years.
