Hanshin Expressway, No. 4 Bayshore Route, Ohama to Izumiotsu, closed all day for 10 days from April 16.

Posted on 2024-02-092024-02-15 by Editor in Chief

Since congestion is expected on the Hanshin Expressway and surrounding roads, including access to Kansai International Airport, we urge people to refrain from driving and use public transportation such as railroads, or to consider taking a detour route.

Hanshin Expressway will close the Ohama – Izumiotsu up and down routes to traffic all day due to the renewal work on the No. 4 Bayshore Route. The period is from 4:00 a.m. on April 16 to 6:00 a.m. on April 26 for 10 days.

renovation work

Construction period: April 16, 2024 4:00 – April 26, 2024 6:00 (10 days)

Construction section: No. 4 Bayshore Route, Ohama to Izumiotsu (11.1 km of upper and lower lines)

Road closure entrances/exits/PAs:

Ohama Entrance (southbound), Ohama Exit (northbound), Dejima Exit, Ishizu Exit, Hamadera Exit, Takaishi Exit, Sukematsu Exit, Sukematsu JCT Exit, Izumiotsu Entrance (northbound), Izumiotsu Exit (southbound), Izumiotsu PA (marine/land), Takaishi PA

Ohama Entrance (northbound), Ohama Exit (southbound), Izumiotsu Entrance (southbound), and Izumiotsu Exit (northbound) are available as usual.

This work is part of the “Expressway Renewal Project” to extend the service life of structures.

About 37 years have passed since the Ohama – Dejima and Dejima – Izumiotsu bridges opened in 1987 and 1993, respectively, and many fatigue cracks and other damages have occurred on the steel slabs, the roadbed of the bridges.

Since its opening, this section has not undergone any major repair work such as road closures, and compared to other sections, pavement damage such as potholes has become more apparent. Each time, the pavement has been repeatedly repaired through emergency lane restrictions.

In addition to reinforcing the structure with high-performance floor slab waterproofing and SFRC (Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete) pavement, the renewal work will also include improved signage layout for easier understanding, colored pavement, safety measures at merging and curved sections, renewal of electrical equipment, and renovation of restrooms at the PA. The project will also include the renewal of electrical equipment and the renovation of restrooms at PAs.

Details of the road closure, detour information, and traffic impact forecasts are available on a special site for the renewal work.
