Weathernews released the “Fourth Pollen Dispersion Trend” on February 14.

According to the company, Tokyo entered the “pollen season” on February 13, one day later than last year, and after Nagasaki Prefecture entered the “pollen season” on February 7, the area of pollen dispersion gradually expanded, and by February 13, pollen dispersion had begun in 13 prefectures in Tokyo.

The area of cedar pollen will rapidly expand in western Japan, eastern Japan, and southern Tohoku over the next 20 days, and cedar pollen will begin to be dispersed in parts of northern Tohoku in late February and early March.

The scattering of cedar pollen is expected to begin in earnest soon after the start of the cedar pollen scattering in western and eastern Japan.

Full-scale scattering of cedar pollen is expected to continue in Kyushu through early March, and in other parts of western Japan, the Tokai region, and the Kanto region through mid-March. In Hokuriku and southern Tohoku, cedar pollen is expected to be fully dispersed from late February to late March, and in northern Tohoku from early March to mid-April.

In western and eastern Japan, the amount of cedar pollen gradually decreases in mid-March, while the dispersion of cypress pollen increases; from late March to mid-April, cypress pollen is expected to be dispersed in earnest in various regions of western and eastern Japan. In Hokkaido, the dispersion of birch pollen is expected to be in full swing from late April to mid-May.

Compared to the normal year, the amount of dispersal will be slightly above normal in many areas from the Kinki to Tohoku regions, while areas in southern Kyushu and Chugoku/Shikoku will have more than the normal amount. In Hokkaido, the amount of dusting is expected to be about twice that of the normal year, and the national average is expected to be 125% of the normal year.

Compared to 2023, the amount of dusting is expected to be significantly higher in some parts of northern Japan, but lower in a wide range of other areas. In Hokkaido, where the amount of dusting in 2023 was record low, the amount of dusting is expected to be about six times higher than in 2023. On the other hand, in western Japan and the Kanto region, where the amount of dusting was high in 2023, the amount of dusting is expected to decrease, and in some areas the amount of dusting will be about half that of 2023.
