The final event of “Mongolia Open Innovation and Co-Creation for SDGs (MICS) 2023” was held in Ulaanbaatar, MICS is a newly launched program this year that supports a wide range of stakeholders from industry, government, and academia in Japan and Mongolia to co-create and collaborate on innovative solutions to solve social issues and achieve the SDGs by bringing together technologies, ideas, and funds.

The event was attended by 100 people from Mongolian government agencies, NGOs, venture capitalists, and corporations, including startup support organizations Shibuya Startup Support, Gotanda Valley, and Plug and Play Kyoto, and 10 collaborative project teams that aim to solve social issues. Ten project teams presented their final pitches and networking sessions were held.

Through the kick-off event held in August last year, the 10 selected collaborative projects have received mentoring and technical support from Japanese and Mongolian supporters with partial subsidies for travel expenses between Japan and Mongolia, and have worked with new Japanese and Mongolian companies, NGOs, and educational institutions to promote co-creation and collaboration to solve social issues and achieve the SDGs in Mongolia. We have promoted co-creation and collaboration to solve social issues and achieve the SDGs in Mongolia. Five of these collaborative projects have received partial support for implementation costs from JICA and sponsor companies. As a result of these activities, many of our projects have won funding and gained high reputation through winning prizes in domestic contests and participating in overseas events.

The 10 collaborative projects will continue to work toward concrete social implementation and resolution of social issues. If you are interested in any of these projects, please feel free to contact JICA Mongolia office (mg_oso_rep@jica.go.jp ).
