Rakuten STAY FUJIMI TERRACE Hakone Ashinoko is an accommodation facility where guests can view Mt. The company plans to brand facilities with terraces that offer a view of Mt. Fuji as FUJIMI TERRACE.
On March 1, Rakuten Stay will hold the grand opening of “Rakuten STAY FUJIMI TERRACE Hakone Ashinoko” on the shores of Lake Ashinoko in Moto-Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture. We had a chance to stay at the facility on a trial basis prior to the grand opening and would like to introduce its features in this report.
Some of the rooms are dog-friendly, which means you can stay with your dog. The rooms are equipped with special cushions, food bowls, pet seats, etc., and there are also paw-washing stations. as soon as you exit the lakeside entrance on the first floor, you can go for a walk.
All rooms have a half-open-air bath with natural hot spring water, and a terrace with a view of Mt. Fuji over the Peace Gate of Hakone Shrine on the lake. The terrace also offers a footbath. The higher ranked rooms also have a sauna with a lake view. The rooms are also fully equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, and cutlery, as well as a drum-type washing machine with a drying function, making long-term stays comfortable.
As with other Rakuten Stay facilities, unattended check-in using a smart lock is introduced, and guests can enter the room by entering their PIN code, which is sent to them in advance via e-mail. After entering the room, guests can check in using the videophone function of the tablet installed in the room.
Dog friendly 2 double beds + loft (Room 101)
There is no restaurant in the building, and nearby restaurants close early, so for dinner and breakfast, you will need to bring your own food or order an optional meal menu at the time of reservation. Although only available for suites, you can also arrange for an on-site chef to prepare authentic French cuisine.
In the unlikely event that you are in need of food, there is a convenience store near the nearest bus stop, which is only a few minutes’ walk away, and there are vending machines in the building that sell meal kits and other items, so you will have no problem making use of these facilities.
In the refrigerator of each room, there are welcome drinks, snacks, and welcome sweets, which you can enjoy free of charge. If you have ordered dinner or breakfast in advance, you will find the ingredients in the refrigerator when you check in, which you will cook and eat by yourself.
This time I stayed in a 4 double-bedded room (Room 404) on the 4th floor. The room specifications are comparable to those of a suite, but the size of the room is almost the same, and the interior specifications are slightly different, so it can be considered a “reasonable suite.
Entering the room with the security code provided in advance by e-mail, we found a spacious room, and if the weather was clear, we would be able to see through the large window the picturesque Mt. Unfortunately, when we checked in that day, Mt. Fuji was covered with clouds, but the next morning we were able to see the snow-capped Mt.
One of the advantages of Rakuten Stay is that it is equipped with a complete set of kitchen appliances, washing machines, etc., making the stay relaxing and home-like, but because it is different from what one has at home, there were times when I did not know how to use it and had to go right back to the house.
Last fall, when I stayed at the Rakuten STAY VILLA Nikko, a website called the “Rakuten STAY Guest Portal” was provided, and by accessing it with my smartphone, I was able to learn how to set the air conditioner and floor heating, use the dishwasher and washing machine, and prepare dinner and breakfast that I had ordered in advance. The guest portal URL was included in the e-mail sent in advance of this stay, so that the guests could study it in advance. Furthermore, upon entering the room, the two-dimensional code was projected on the wall using a projector, indicating that the company was working to solve the problem.
The bath is a half-open-air bath with natural hot spring water (the source is Moto-Hakone Onsen), and was already filled with hot water when we checked in. It was nice to be able to soak in the hot spring as soon as we arrived to relieve the fatigue of traveling. This room is also equipped with a high-temperature Morris sauna made by Metos, so it is recommended for sauna lovers. However, there is no water bath, so enjoy the outside air on the terrace while viewing Mt.
Incidentally, there used to be a hotel in this location called the Fujimi Hotel, which many foreigners visited during the Meiji and Taisho periods. Unfortunately, Fujimi Hotel was destroyed by the Great Kanto Earthquake. The Hakone Ashinoko Museum of Art was built and operated until 2006, after which it was abandoned. The land was purchased and built by Rakuten Group, and became the Rakuten STAY FUJIMI TERRACE Hakone Ashinoko.
While of course it can be used as a convenient base for sightseeing in Hakone, another way to enjoy the facility is to take a relaxing soak in the hot spring while taking in the history of the area and enjoying the view of Lake Ashi and Mt.
