KDDI and Okinawa Cellular Telephone Company will start offering “unlimited au overseas calling” on March 15, which allows unlimited use of data communications for 24 hours while traveling overseas.
This service allows you to use the au smartphone you are using in Japan at your destination regardless of the plan you are currently subscribed to. The standard rate is 1,200 yen per day for unlimited data usage in more than 160 countries and regions overseas. If you make a reservation at least one hour in advance from within Japan, you can use the service for 1,000 yen per day as a reservation discount, or 800 yen per day in certain areas. Tethering is available at the destination, and can also be used from PCs and tablets via au smartphones (optional application required).
In conjunction with the launch of “au Unlimited Overseas Service,” the “au Unlimited Overseas Service 1 Day Return Campaign” will be conducted, in which 24 hours of usage fees will be returned to the au PAY balance (the campaign site will be available by March 15).
The “Global Flat-rate Data” service currently being offered will end on March 15.
