Ki no Koka Maekawa Architects opened “Kurasu Sauna Tsurugi” (185-1 Teramachi, Namekawa City, Toyama Prefecture), an inn that rents out a single building.
Located in a location with a view of the Tateyama mountain range, including Tsurugidake, the resort consists of a cottage “Hikari no Ie” (150 tsubo) in the main building and a sauna (100 tsubo) in the annex, both built in a rural setting. Lodging is limited to one couple per day.
The main objective is to create an “authentic sauna in daily life” with a wooden structure, allowing visitors to stay in a spacious and luxurious space. The sauna producer Kawachan (Naoki Kawada) supervised the project, and architect Toshikazu Kawai designed the building.
The sauna with an authentic Finnish stove, the water bath with well water running off the well, the veranda and wooden deck for outdoor bathing, the open-air bath with natural hot spring water, and the all-glass relaxation space with a fireplace for indoor bathing can all offer spectacular views of the Tateyama mountain range and the Tsurugidake Mountains.
The main house has a dining room with a wood feel, a living room where you can enjoy analog records, a bedroom with Brain Sleep bedding, and a room on the second floor with tatami mats for relaxing.
Dinner will feature Toyama’s winter delicacy, “yellowtail shabu-shabu” (cold yellowtail), and “sahimeshi” (rice with special green curry and seasonal vegetables) will also be served. For breakfast, guests can enjoy a healthy menu prepared by the local “Takako Yuki Yasai” restaurant.
