On February 20, American Express International began issuing the American Express Gold Preferred Card at 12:00 pm. The annual fee is 39,600 yen. The annual fee for the existing Gold Card is 31,900 yen, which is an increase of 8,000 yen.
More than 40 years after the American Express Gold Card was launched in 1980 as the first gold card in Japan, the card has been updated to “meet today’s needs”.
New continuing benefits include a “Free Stay Gift” of a free night’s stay for two at a premium hotel in Japan for annual spending of at least 2 million yen, and a 10,000 yen credit toward hotel reservations on American Express Travel Online.
In the dining field, the company offered 20% cash back (up to 10,000 yen per year) through Pocket Concierge, which allows customers to make reservations at select restaurants in Japan, as well as dining privileges at luxury hotels.
In addition, the company offers Membership Rewards Plus, a points program with an unlimited expiration date, and a bonus program that gives 3 points for every 100 yen spent at participating merchants, including online stores.
