Posted on 2024-02-262024-03-08 by Editor in Chief

Garmin Japan will release two running GPS watches, Forerunner 165 and Forerunner 165 Music, on February 29.

The Forerunner series features high-precision GPS positioning and advanced training functions, and is a smartwatch designed specifically to support running.

In addition to running measurement functions such as distance and pace, the device is also equipped with sensing technology, training programs, and safety support functions to provide guidance for improving performance, and will analyze and propose training conditions optimized for each individual’s level and objectives.

The new Forerunner 165 is an entry-level model suitable for beginner runners, featuring a 1.2-inch AMOLED display with large numbers, letters, and graphs in vivid colors that are easy to read even when running under direct sunlight.

It is operated with five buttons and a touch screen. The buttons can be operated during running to prevent malfunctions, and the touch screen can be used in everyday life to suit the situation.

Even inexperienced runners can get started easily, and the system also features functions to keep you motivated by quantifying your results and progress. When paired with the free Garmin Connect Mobile app, the coaching function “Garmin Coach” becomes available.

With Garmin Coach, you can set race goals with a running coach in the app and receive a training plan accordingly. After the run, Garmin Coach also analyzes the results and provides long-term support to improve performance.

The product also provides a GNSS positioning system using four satellites. The company claims that the product can provide course navigation with highly accurate location information in a variety of environments.

In addition to the basic functions of a smartwatch, such as measuring heart rate, breathing rate, number of steps taken, and calories burned, the watch can also monitor the body’s energy status based on the “Body Battery,” a proprietary index that quantifies the body’s energy status, stress level, and sleep quality. It also supports electronic payment using Suica.

The Forerunner 165 Music is a model with additional music playback functionality, supporting services such as Spotify and storing up to 450 songs on the device.
