A model that forms the spectacular landscape of the new DisneySea Fantasy Springs area has been unveiled. We took a closer look at it!

Posted on 2024-03-042024-03-18 by Editor in Chief

This issue focuses on rockwork (pseudorockwork), for which a 1/4-size model was unveiled following the previous Costume and Vehicle issue.

Tokyo Disney Resort unveiled on February 27 models, costumes, and vehicles for Fantasy Springs, the new theme port at Tokyo DisneySea that will have its grand opening on June 6.

The highlight is the full-length rock work that further enhances the immersive experience in the new themed port!

The first thing that catches the eye at the entrance of the new Fantasy Springs theme port is the Fantasy Springs Entryway. The rockwork, which is an important element in forming the beautiful natural environment of the theme port, can be clearly seen on the rock face of the 1/25 size area model.

The rockwork consists of steel frame, reinforcing bars, wire mesh, and mortar, and is completed after painting and installation of artificial flowers and artificial trees. The order of the process is “model making & 3D scanning” → “framework & groundwork” → “carving (modeling)” → “painting” → “decorative installation.

The rock work added to the space creates an overwhelming sense of immersion, and also plays a role in transporting guests to the world of “Fantasy Springs. The 1/25 size model of the area displayed at the venue was created for the “Model Making & 3D Scanning” event.

The representative rockwork at Tokyo DisneySea is the Prometheus Volcano, which covers an area of approximately 20,000 m2; in contrast, Fantasy Springs covers an area of approximately 39,000 m2, almost double that of Tokyo DisneySea! Just hearing the numbers should give you an idea of its grandeur.

In addition, a new path will be built between the Arabian Coast and Lost River Delta to access the new theme port. The new road will pass between the two areas and enter each area via the “Fantasy Springs Entryway”. Here, guests will be greeted by a magical fountain with rock representations of Peter Pan, Anna Elsa, and even Rapunzel!

In addition, a 1/25th size model of the “Magical Fountain” in the area is also on display at this year’s exhibition. In Fantasy Springs, magical water from the Magical Fountain forms waterfalls and ponds and flows into each area, as seen here in front of the Tokyo DisneySea Fantasy Springs Hotel.

The 1/4-size model picks up Cinderella, Princess Aurora from “Sleeping Beauty” and Prince Philip. Near Cinderella, there is a modeling that looks like a glass slipper.

According to a Walt Disney Imagineering representative we spoke with when the construction site was opened to the media in the summer of 2023, “There are many characters hiding in the area, but we are not telling you where they are. We don’t tell you where they are because we want you to find them for yourselves! So please try to find them for yourself!

An exhibition, “Fantasy Springs New Chapter Begins Exhibition,” will also be held at the 2nd floor Trails & Tracks of the commercial facility “Ikspiari” in the Tokyo Disney Resort from June.

The attraction of “Fantasy Springs” and the thoughts and stories behind the Disney fantasy world will be introduced. In addition, there will be exhibits that can only be seen here. More details, including dates and prices, will be announced soon. Let’s look forward to seeing them!
