Himeji City has begun operating a new loop bus that tours around Himeji Castle. Shinki Bus is updating its fleet to coincide with the 30th anniversary of Himeji Castle’s registration as a World Heritage site, and the new BYD “J6” electric bus is the first of its kind to be introduced in Japan.
Fares are 190 yen for adults and 100 yen for children, and can be paid with a touch-transit IC card or credit card (NicoPa, an IC card issued by Shinki Bus, is not accepted). A special one-day pass for the Himeji Castle Loop Bus (adult 400 yen, child 200 yen) is also available.
The sides of the car are designed with a large image of Himeji Castle, the crests of successive lords of the castle, stone walls, narrow walls, and other castle-inspired materials used throughout the car. The rear of the car is wrapped with “Shiromaruhime,” the image character of Himeji City, and “Kanbei-kun,” the image character of Kanbei Kuroda, respectively.
