On March 6, the Bureau of Construction of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government announced that it will start work on a project to build a continuous multi-level crossing of the Seibu Railway Shinjuku Line.

Approximately 5.1 km from near Igi Station (Kami-igusa 1-chome, Suginami-ku) to near Seibu Yanagisawa Station (Higashifushimi 1-chome, Seitokyo City) will be elevated, and Kami-igusa, Kamishakuji, Musanoseki and Higashifushimi stations will be elevated stations in the section to create a continuous road and rail elevated intersection. In addition, approximately 3 km of side roads (streets attached to the railroad) will be constructed along the elevated railroad structure.

By eliminating 19 railroad crossings, including those on Senkawa Street, the project aims to improve safety by eliminating traffic congestion and railroad crossing accidents caused by railroad crossing closures. The project will also unify areas that had been divided by the railroad, leading to new community development and a more convenient living environment.

The project period is from FY2023 to FY2037 (side road maintenance until FY2039), and the project cost is 266 billion yen.
