The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a Loan Agreement (L/A) with the Government of the Republic of Rwanda on March 5 in Kigali, Rwanda, for a loan of up to 14 billion yen for “Development Policy Loan for the Education Sector”.
In Rwanda, the number of teachers and classrooms is inadequate for the country’s rapidly growing school-age population, and the quality of teaching is declining. In addition, the number of students who drop out or remain in school is increasing. To address these issues, this project will provide financial assistance to the Rwandan government to strengthen the functions of teacher training schools, increase the number of classrooms, improve pre-school education, and promote school lunches to improve children’s nutrition and strengthen learning incentives. In addition, JICA has long cooperated with Rwandan children to improve their learning, with a particular focus on improving science and mathematics in the primary education sector. JICA will promote the digital transformation of education (DX) by providing training for teachers to use ICT in collaboration with the ongoing “Improving Primary Science and Mathematics Learning with ICT Project”.
