Navitime Japan has added a function to its “AiRCAM” (Android version) drive recorder application that detects and alerts users of distracted driving and drowsy driving in real time. iOS version will be added in the future.
AiRCAM is a smartphone application that utilizes AI and AR to prevent dangerous and traffic-violating driving. In addition to a drive recorder function that records both video and driving data, AiRCAM provides functions such as intuitive display of temporary stops, ORBIS, sharp curves, railroad crossings, etc., and “AR routes” that navigate to the optimal driving lane.
With the newly added “alert function for watching the driver’s eyes and falling asleep at the wheel,” AI judges in real time whether the driver is watching the driver’s eyes or falling asleep at the wheel, based on the driver’s eyelids and facial movements. Depending on the situation, the AI alerts the driver with a voice message, “Please look carefully ahead.
The system can also be used when the driver is wearing a mask or when the driver is different from usual. The system also takes into account the braking distance (the distance from when the brakes are applied to when the car comes to a complete stop) and alerts the driver earlier if the speed is too high.
