Although more and more people are using SNS to gather information about their travel destinations, even in this day and age, we are still interested in the recommendations of local people. In this section, we ask people who work at lodging facilities throughout Japan to introduce points of interest at the lodging facilities where they work and their favorite sightseeing spots in the surrounding area.
For this interview, we spoke with Ms. Ryuka Sato, a reservation specialist in the Sales Department of Jozankei View Hotel in Jozankei Onsen.
Name: Jozankei Onsen Jozankei View Hotel
Location: 2-111-3 Jozankei Onsen Higashi, Minami-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido
–Please give us an overview of the facility.
Jozankei Onsen is located about an hour’s drive from Sapporo Station. Jozankei View Hotel is a large spa resort hotel with a total of 647 guest rooms located in this hot spring resort area that has been in operation for over 150 years.
–What are some of the highlights or experiences that you would like to see or experience that you can’t find anywhere else?
The underground hot spring bath “YUISENGO” boasts an abundance of hot spring water from Jozankei Hot Spring, and offers a variety of baths including saunas, jet baths, and outdoor baths. From “Hoshiten,” 60 meters above the ground, you can enjoy a panoramic view of nature.
In addition, the “Asa kara jibunjiru-don” (self-serving bowl of rice topped with salmon roe and other seafood) is popular at the buffet, which offers a wide variety of over 60 dishes.
–What are your personal recommendations for nearby attractions?
The best time to visit Jozankei, where you can enjoy the scenery of the four seasons, is in autumn when the leaves change color. In particular, the Toyohirakyo Dam, a 20-minute drive from the hotel, is not only the water source for Sapporo City, but is also one of the most famous places in Hokkaido for its autumn foliage. Visitors can enjoy the magnificent beauty of the arch dam, which is the best in Hokkaido, and the vividly colored autumn scenery.
–Finally, any last words for our readers?
The Lagoon, Hokkaido’s largest indoor water amusement facility with a total area of 4,000 m2, offers a splash river, wave pool, children’s pool perfect for pool debuts, and many other fun facilities. The Lagoon is ideal for casual solo travelers, couples, and families of three generations, as well as for lively gatherings.
