The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has formulated a basic plan for the reconstruction of the Tokyo Fire Department Headquarters building and the Marunouchi Fire Station.
The Tokyo Fire Department Headquarters Building and the Marunouchi Fire Department Building, built in 1976 in a corner of Otemachi overlooking the Imperial Palace, will soon be 50 years old. As the buildings continue to age and the demand for firefighting administration increases, they are facing issues such as the narrowing of the government buildings. The current plan aims to protect the city of Tokyo and its residents as a core base in the event of any disasters, such as an earthquake directly under the Tokyo metropolitan area, which is expected to occur in the future, and to connect safety and security to the future Tokyo of the 22nd century.
Until now, the functions of the headquarters building have been maintained by dispersing functions and renovating the building, but a new headquarters building is needed to fundamentally resolve these issues and maximize its functions as a disaster prevention base facility. The planned site for the new headquarters building will have a maximum area of 5,300 m2, which is larger than the current building of approximately 4,300 m2, and construction work will be carried out from FY2028 to FY2032, with relocation and operation scheduled to begin at the end of FY2032.
