New toll rates for expressways in the Kinki region from midnight on June 1. Upper limit raised to 1,950 yen, midnight discount and city center detour discount introduced.

Posted on 2024-04-23 by Editor in Chief

Hanshin Expressway and NEXCO West Japan announced that they will introduce new expressway tolls in the Kinki region starting at midnight on June 1.

In response to the situation where traffic is concentrated in the city center, the Hanshin Expressway has revised its fare system to be fairer based on a distance system as well as to disperse traffic, and has set a new maximum fare.

For example, in the case of a standard ETC vehicle, the current basic fee ranges from a minimum of 300 yen to a maximum of 1,320 yen for traffic up to 32.3 km and a flat rate of 1,320 yen for traffic over 32.3 km, but from now on the fee will be based on distance up to 51.7 km and the maximum will be raised to 1,950 yen.

In addition, to support logistics, the maximum discount rate for large-lot, high-frequency discounts will be increased from the current 35% to 45%, and a late-night discount of 20% will be offered for traffic entering the Hanshin Expressway between midnight and 4:00 am.

In addition, in light of the easing of traffic congestion on the Chugoku Expressway following the opening of the Shin-Meishin Expressway and the full opening of the Yamatogawa Line, the city center detour discount, which determines tolls based on the shortest distance between origin and destination points regardless of route, was introduced to ensure that users avoiding the Osaka and Kobe city centers are not disadvantaged in terms of tolls.

For example, from the Sukematsu IC on the Wangan Line to the Nakano IC on the Higashi Osaka Line, the price is 1460 yen regardless of the route, compared to 1460 yen via the city center (Higashi Osaka Line) and 1800 yen bypassing the city center (Yamatogawa Line/Kinki Expressway).

In addition, for traffic between central Osaka and Kansai International Airport, a discount for Kansai International Airport will be introduced as a measure to ease the drastic changes accompanying the revision of the maximum fare, and the maximum fare will be 1,320 yen (for a standard car).
