On April 15, 2023, a major military conflict occurred in Sudan, located in Northeast Africa.

Although the issue of evacuation of Japanese nationals in Sudan attracted much attention at the time of the outbreak, a year has passed since the conflict, and opportunities for media coverage of the issue have greatly diminished.

However, the state of conflict continues to this day, and as of March 2024, 6.3 million people have been internally displaced in Sudan, 1.8 million have been displaced across the border, and another 25 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance, and at the UN Security Council meeting on March 20, it was noted that in the next few months approximately The UN Security Council meeting on March 20 indicated that approximately 220,000 children may die from malnutrition in the coming months, and the situation is such that people are unable to get enough daily food.

The event will be moderated by Jun Hori, a journalist with experience reporting on Sudan, which is in crisis but rarely reported on in Japan, and will feature Kaoi Nakasa of the JICA Sudan office, which is responsible for Japanese ODA assistance, and Imanaka of the Japan International Volunteer Center (JVC), a Japanese NGO that has been active in the country. Imanaka of the Japan International Volunteer Center (JVC), a Japanese NGO, will speak on the panel.

Focusing especially on the “people” of Sudan, the program will include a cross-talk session on the appeal of the country, the current crisis situation, and the strength of the Sudanese people who are struggling in the face of difficult circumstances.
